We want to take a moment to introduce you to our friends and neighbors Rock Elm Tavern Restaurants located in both Plymouth & Maple Grove Minnesota. The AutoMotorPlex is new to the Medina community we needed to connect with some great businesses. Most recently our 8th Annual Oktoberfest German Car Show allowed us to get to know Rock Elm Tavern. No surprise to us they were named Twin-West Small Business Of The Year. We found their partnership including their catering, service, and food some of the best we have worked with. To learn more we interviewed them so we could all learn more about their business and we can share it with you.
Why is your tagline ” Where Good Friends Gather” and how did that come about?
My business partner Brad Sorenson and I are lifelong friends. Our families would gather frequently for good food, great drinks, and fantastic conversation. It was during one of those conversations that we discussed potentially owning a restaurant someday. Today, that casual conversation with a friend turned into a reality.
Rock Elm Tavern: “Where Good Friends Gather” truly embodies how Rock Elm Tavern came to be what it is today. We hope that we can be a place where friends like to go for the same reasons Brad and I liked to “gather” so many years ago (and still do today). Who knows what great ideas could come to fruition in the comforts of our restaurant?
Congrats on the Twin-West Small Business of the year. You partnered with us on giving to Ronald McDonald House Charities. How do you view giving back and how can your customers help in your efforts?
We at Rock Elm take great pride in being a support to the communities that we are a part of. We want to be known as an establishment where people feel known, appreciated, and welcomed. Our success comes from people who support us, so it is important that we contribute to the events that are important to them as well. Customers can help in our efforts by coming into the tavern and celebrating the events and fundraisers we host in the restaurant. If patrons follow us on social media, they will know when these special events take place. Also, we appreciate when people reach out and inform us about the charities they are passionate about. We are always looking for ways to help the people who have helped make Rock Elm Tavern become what it is today.
Are reservations recommended?
As a community establishment, we want people to feel as if they can stop in whenever they choose. We tend to appreciate guests calling ahead if they are dining with larger groups of 6-8 or more. We also have semi private dining areas (at both locations) that can be reserved for larger parties and events as well.
What are the 5 menu items your customers should try that you think will have them leaving and telling others?
Tots- We are especially known for our Housemade Tots. Served with a side of bacon ketchup, a perfect accompaniment to a local brew.
Burgers- Made from locally sourced beef (Revier Farms, Olivia, MN) are some of our most popular items. The Rock Elm Burger and the Vat 17 Burger are two of our top sellers. If you like a little spice the “But it is a Dry Heat Burger” is a great option as well.
Mushroom Toast- (Only available at our Maple Grove location) A guest favorite! We top ciabatta bread with the toppings from our Rock Elm Burger (Montamore cheese, roasted mushrooms, candied walnut aioli, arugula).
Our most popular entrees are the NY Strip (Revier Farms) and the Scallops.
Anything else readers should know about Rock Elm Plymouth or Maple Grove?
